Improv Festival 2016

October each year brings about the Improv Festival. It has been going from strength to strength offering a diverse range of workshops and ways to connect and play.

Actors and musicians merge to perform the story live for the audience.

Playback theatre offered our group members a special opportunity to focus on their personal development within the artistry and form.

This was a joyful exploration of our current times and the direction the world is shifting in. A massive thank you to our amazing participants and the worlds they come from.

Nurturing the Spark with Raylyn

Raylyn and I have known each other for eleven years. From humble beginnings in wondering what would come before us in our late night flatmate chats, to where we are now as friends and cohorts in creativity.

With my deep gratitude to Raylyn for her generosity and support that has helped to launch me on my journey as a creative healer.

If you're ever in doubt, honest, sit down with piece of paper and brainstorm what you want for your life, chat it out with a mate. It works!

All these years of experience behind us, we had an opportunity to sit down and chat about where we've been and where we are going.

Alongside a celebration of our journey we took time to nurture Ray and her next steps in the next phase of her life.

We made a commitment with "Intentional Creativity" and the Red Thread ceremony. Both placing a intention for the future and releasing.

Sometimes you just need accountability buddy in your professional work.

Nurturing the spark merges both personal and professional as you layout the steps for this moment, the next challenge and what lies ahead.

It celebrates your skills and talent and what you have to offer.

It was quite buzzy and the buzzy part could make it addictive.

Island Bays Big Community Christmas Sing

I was warmly invited to lead song in a group workshop at Island Bay Community Centre for their Christmas Party.

What a delightful occasion with lots of warmth and Christmas Spirit.

Thank you so much Claire! We had so much fun with you yesterday!

It really set the tone of the evening, and reminded me (at least) to take time out to actually enjoy the event rather than stressing over everything. This was amazing! You have such an awesome gift! May your summer season be full of joy and happiness and may 2018 bring you awesome new experiences, good health, and loads of fun adventures!

When fate prevents you from getting to rehearsal then its time for a switch up.

This year we experienced several weeks of the lift being broken at our rehearsal venue at Thistle Hall. For a while we change venue. When that wasn't practical I did one on one sessions with Lee at his home.

This was very rewarding to have time to work deeper and to share playback with the special people in Lee's life.

Lee also hooked us up with the incredible service users at St John of God. This has been a rich experience for our community of performers and we are grateful to Lee for making this happen.

We are ever so glad the lift got repaired and finally we have our full team back together again.

Heartbeat to Heartbeat

I was thrilled to deliver an active music making program at Thumbs Up in 2016. We delivered two performances celebrating community and connection.

A big thank you to Thumbs Up, Hutt City Council and Creative Communities for your support.

Performances

1. Petone Working Men's Club, 15th November

2. Petone Library, 6th December

We met weekly to make music and create song together that we then shared with the community.

Business Coaching: Rachel Nankivell

I am passionate about educators finding their creative voice.

Rachel and I made time to chat about her amazing photo club and holiday program she ran in Winter 2017. What she wanted to do and ways she could do it maximizing on her talent.

Yay! This city is so lucky to have you Claire.

I have been very lucky to have her come and capture some of my work with Thumbs Up and Alpha Omega Playback Theatre Company.

These are some of my favorites and speak to the wonderful stories Rachel tells with her camera.

Storyteller: Nancy Fulford

Spending time with such an amazing storyteller is an absolute delight. I was able to support Nancy with the story she had to tell at Storytellers Cafe.

What luxury to be relaxing on a couch having a story told just to you.

Listening, reflecting and being an outside eye.

I was very touched by her beautiful and moving story. A pleasure to support her.

Staff Development Thumbs Up

Silly photo 4.jpg

These are the raddest people I know working in the disability industry. This is just a drop of all the people working for Thumbs Up.

Thumbs up is a parent led organisation that celebrates the unique individual and supports them into having meaningful life and educational experiences as a vocational service.

We had a session celebrating the staff and achievements of participants over the last year.

The was goody bags, music making sessions, gifts of words and meaningful exchange for what has been and what is yet to come.

I deliver both song and drama sessions at Thumbs Up, it is always a delight to spend time creating with the staff and breathing some action into the staff training week.

It’s the most interaction we have had all week. It’s great to be up out of chairs and moving around and getting creative.
